MORTUARY SCHOOL DIRECTORY

City Morgue Gift Shop created this directory in response to numerous requests for information on schools offering mortuary science curriculums. This list is not to be construed as complete. There are numerous schools out there (both accredited and non-accredited) that CMGS may have missed.

 

"Individuals in funeral service careers provide advice and counseling, legal documentation, assistance with administrative tasks, and the logistical management of human remains.

Funeral service professionals provide counsel and advice to people prior to death as well as during and after bereavement.  They must be sensitive to requirements of law, custom, and the accepted practices of the individuals and communities with whom they work."

Basic Requirements for Mortuary/Funeral Service Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.

 

General State licensing requirements as a Funeral Director or Embalmer:
 Licensing requirements will vary from state to state. 

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent

  2. Degree from a two year college (Associated Arts degree)

  3. Completion of 1-2 year program in mortuary science

  4. Apprenticeship of 1-2 years in a working mortuary/funeral home
