Elvis Aaron Presley (1935-1977) American
rock singer. He became one of the most popular (and controversial) singers
in the world in the mid-1950's, with his interpretation of songs such as
'Blue Suede Shoes' and 'Hound Dog'. Condemned by some for the blatant
sexual charge in his performances, he became universally recognized as a
great popular singer, and an outstanding interpreter of ballads.
